I had a phone screen with an HR person after getting 2 internal referrals to let them know I was interested in the role. The HR screener seemed very uninterested in learning more about my background or why I am interested in the role, stating clearly that they feel I am overqualified and "situations like this rarely work out, which is why I skip over resumes like yours in the first place." It was really strange and kind of rude. I was genuinely interested in the job and the company, as shown by the networking I did beforehand to help connect. Now, I don't think I would consider Panorama for a job in the future.

The interview process had 3 steps, with about a week between each: first, a call, then an interview with the hiring manager, and finally a panel interview. I was told I'd hear back about their decision within a week, but that didn't happen. They gave pretty clear guidance on what topics to expect, which was helpful. But for the final panel interview, some questions went off-topic. I was asked about receiving feedback and implementing it, and then asked for a more personal and generalized example that was harder to accept, which was a bit concerning. Also, the people on the panel weren't the ones I was told would be there, which was jarring since I'd prepped by looking into the expected panelists. The unexpected people were at a higher level and couldn't answer my questions about the day-to-day job. Many questions also didn't relate to the role itself.

Had a screening call with recruiter Tumy, who was great and responsive. Then, a virtual interview with the Head of TA and People Lead. I didn't do well in the virtual interview because I had a death in the family over the weekend and couldn't focus or explain my HR experience, even though I had prepped. It's my fault, and I'm bummed because I thought this company would be a good fit. They give you interview topics beforehand, which is helpful. There was one question about learning business acumen that was phrased weirdly.

I interviewed with two directors who were very lively. They asked pretty standard questions, but at the end, one made comments that made me feel like they were only looking for younger employees. When asked “what makes you stay?” one replied because “I only have a Bachelors and I was able to move up without having a Masters, the CEO doesn’t have a graduate degree neither.” She also said “Plus the CEO is young like me and so and so.” As a BIPOC with an advanced degree and many years of education experience, I was taken aback. Although the interview went well to me, that last part left me feeling disappointed. They ended up hiring a much younger person.
