Behavioral Coding System Design Presentation

I went through a week-long interview process. It started with a background and culture fit chat. Then there was a day break. After that, I had three more interviews. These included a technical white boarding challenge and a presentation. They also asked for two references.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The presentation covered a technical subject I picked, and the technical challenge involved me explaining a problem, devising a solution using pseudo-code, and then writing a function to implement it (specifically, to create and loop through a deeply nested array structure) in a programming language I chose. This was followed by some whiteboarding about table relationships.

The recruiter contacted me, and I was immediately entered into the interview process. They scheduled a day one and a day two interview simultaneously, though progressing to day two wasn't guaranteed. Day two required a three-hour presentation preparation, and the interview itself was three hours long. Day one was an hour and a half, involving a coding problem solved with the assistance of three engineers. Apparently, Google was also usable, but this wasn't disclosed until near the end. Day one seemed positive. On the day of the first interview, a call was expected between 5 and 7 PM to discuss the outcome and next steps. However, no call was received. After sending two emails and a LinkedIn message, a response finally came from an unfamiliar recruiter. He mentioned I was an effective communicator but struggled to convey my solution, admitting it was his error that I didn't get the call. I expressed my frustration about wasting time preparing for day two and the unprofessional disregard for my personal time. While the engineers were great, the overall process was terrible. They claim to value employees but seem to only care about candidates who can generate revenue. It felt like all talk and no action, especially with the demand for 4.5 hours of my time, including a significant three-hour block, which I found excessive. I believe I dodged a bullet.

Everyone I met was super nice, really seemed excited to talk to me. The interviews had a lot of talking, but there was also some coding on a whiteboard with algorithms. I met and spoke with at least 6 people in total, and they all seemed really happy working at the company. Even Aaron (the CEO) was cool, knew his stuff technically, and was generous with his time.
