Senior Data Engineer
I got this job through an employee referral. The process started with a recruiter chat, then a hiring manager chat. After that, I had a technical round on data modeling, followed by a technical round covering Python and SQL. The final stage involved a stakeholder panel, a check-in with the hiring manager, and a check-in with the recruiter after everything else was done. Shoutout to Brenda, the recruiter; she was fantastic, always keeping me in the loop and being super responsive and polite.
- Can you design a data model suitable for various analytical needs?
- Could you answer some questions on Python and basic SQL?
Engineering Manager
The process involved 4 main interviews: first, the Director of Engineering (who is the hiring manager) asked me about leadership and people management. Then, a Principal Engineer gave me a system design question to check my technical abilities. Next, a Product Manager asked me about my cross-functional skills, how I work with stakeholders, and tested my business acumen. Lastly, a peer Engineering Manager went deeper into my team management style. After these interviews, I had a follow-up call with the hiring manager to ask any remaining questions, and then there was an informal references review.
- Could you design a system to ingest, process, and serve physical activity data from various customer IoT devices, store it, and display it on a customer app dashboard?
Software Engineer
This was my second time interviewing for a SWE II role, this time for a different team. The entire process took about two months. It included a 30-minute hiring manager chat, a take-home assignment to be completed in 3 business days, a 90-minute session covering code review and system design, and a final 30-minute meeting with a hiring manager. I felt a bit caught off guard during the system design part because some questions were posed where the interviewers themselves admitted they didn't have answers, as their team is currently facing challenges with those exact issues. The final interview phase was quite disorganized. Between my system design interview and the subsequent hiring manager call, I was informed that the role had shifted, and I would now be interviewing with a new hiring manager for a different team. This new manager had only been with the company for a month and struggled to answer most of my questions, making the interaction feel awkward and unproductive. They also expressed uncertainty about whether the role would ultimately land on their team. Following this, I got rejected.
- Tell me about a project you are particularly proud of.
Staff Software Engineer
I had my interview in July 2025. The recruiter was super helpful and always got back to me, which was the only good part. The first chat with the recruiter and then the hiring manager was pretty standard. The next technical interview was weird because they didn't have a coding platform ready and wanted me to use an IDE, but then they didn't even run code, just asked for pseudocode. Also, the invite said one engineer, but another one showed up late. For the system design part, I got a 3-day take-home task to build a system with 4 specific requirements. Even though I did the task, the interviewer seemed clueless about it and started with their own behavioral questions. About halfway through, I had to point out I spent time on the task, and they just skimmed it and asked if I put a lot of effort in. They either didn't know or didn't care. I got rejected a week after that interview, supposedly for not having enough experience. The team seemed disorganized and unprofessional, probably because they all joined recently. Such a waste of my time.
- Can you build a simple FAQ assistant using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for Omada Health?
- Design a system that meets these four requirements: data pipeline/lake, LLMOps/MLOps, FastAPI service, and compliance and monitoring, as a 3-day take home task.
- Walk me through the pseudocode for this task.
