It started with a phone call, then an interview with the team. After that, there were several interviews with other team directors. The process lacked clarity and structure, and I was never sure how many rounds there would be. I interviewed with a few directors who I didn't end up reporting to. It was pretty straightforward though, and everyone was friendly.

So, I went for this Assistant Buyer job at Neiman Marcus. It was pretty set up but also interesting. First, there was this phone call with HR, they wanted to know about my past, if I'd done retail or merchandising stuff, and if I actually wanted to work there. Then, I had a video chat with the person who would be my manager, and that was more about my number skills, how I deal with vendors when we're talking prices, and if I know what's hot in fancy clothes.

Saw the job online, then went to the store to talk to management to make sure it was legit and be proactive. Management told me to apply online first. Got a call back 5 days later from management asking me to fix an error on my application, which I did. A week later, I got an email from a recruiter for a 15-minute online meeting with preliminary questions about availability, salary, etc. Was told I'd move on to the next steps and hear back by the end of that week (it was Tuesday). End of the week came, no word. 12 days passed, I emailed them, no response. Another 5 days passed, I went to the HR office. HR said she'd check and get back to me. A few days later, I got an email from HR to schedule an in-person interview that week. I gave my availability and got no response. Over a week later, I sent another email. Got an immediate response to come in the next day for the interview. Met with the department manager and HR manager for about 30+ minutes, where I discussed my experience. Got an automated email 2 days later saying I didn't get the position. I had to chase them down the whole time, only to get an automated rejection.

The interview process started great, I got through the first round quickly and moved to the second. However, things went downhill from there. The initial interview got rescheduled without any warning, thankfully I saw the email. Then, the manager was 10 minutes late to the rescheduled interview and made it clear she wasn't interested in talking to me or my enthusiasm for the role. After the interview, I was told I'd hear back by a certain date, but that date passed and I eventually got an email saying they went with someone else. I suspected it wouldn't work out due to the manager's attitude, but it's really bad when you promise a response by a certain date and don't deliver. Job hunting is tough enough, and managers who disrespect your time and make you feel like a joke just make it worse.
