The interview was super chill! It had two rounds: one with the department head and another with two senior consultants. It was mostly about my profile, the projects I've worked on, and whether I'd fit into the team.

So, at MSG, we do things pretty carefully to get the best people. First, you apply online, and our HR folks check if you've got the right background. If you pass that, there's an online test, could be coding or something else, depending on the job. After that, an HR person will chat with you for about half an hour about why you're interested, if you'd fit in, and what the job's all about. Then, you'll talk to the hiring manager or a senior person on the team to really dig into your technical skills or how you'd handle job-specific stuff. We also have a bit where you interact with the team to see how you'd vibe with them. The last step is meeting with some of the top brass to talk about the big picture and if you're aligned with MSG's goals. Oh, and sometimes you might need to do a presentation on a case study. If all goes well, we'll make you an offer, which might involve some back-and-forth, and then we get you all set up.

Ich wurde zu einem Gespräch bei MSG eingeladen und meine Fahrt mit dem DB wurde gebucht. Meine Fahrt nach München dauerte etwas länger als 5 Stunden und als ich ankam war ich völlig erschöpft und hatte auch kaum Zeit/Platz um mich kurz vor Gesprächsbeginn noch zu erholen. Das Vorstellungsgespräch war recht angenehm. Das Unternehmen wurde etwas präsentiert, ich habe etwas über die HR gelernt und mich anschließend selbst präsentiert. Es wurden Fragen über meine Abschlussarbeit gestellt und allgemeine Informatikfragen. Dann wurde ich gefragt, ob ich eher im Consulting oder in der Backend-Entwicklung arbeiten möchte. Ich habe erklärt, warum ich mich in der Backend-Entwicklung besser fühlen würde und das Gespräch nach Klärung von Gehaltswünschen/Standort abgeschlossen. Ich fuhr wieder 5-6h mit der Bahn nach Hause, weil ich das Gefühl hatte, das Gespräch lief super. Danach kam eine Antwort, dass die HR vermutet, dass ich mich bei ihnen aus mir unerklärlichen Gründen unwohl fühlen könnte. Ich habe erfahren, dass meine Aussage, dass ich lieber im Backend arbeiten würde und den Erstkontakt zu Kunden lieber anderen Mitarbeitern überlassen würde, deren Charakter und sprachlichen Fähigkeiten besser geeignet sind, von der HR falsch interpretiert wurde. Meine Stärke liegt eher in der Kreativität und Lösungsfindung. Das hat die HR aber anscheinend falsch interpretiert oder aufgrund meiner Müdigkeit habe ich mich etwas falsch ausgedrückt. Auch wenn das Ergebnis negativ war, kann ich vom Bewerbungserlebnis im Allgemeinen als positiv bewerten. Besser wäre es gewesen, wenn bei einer Anfahrt von 5-6 Stunden mit der Bahn, vorher ein Raum und etwas Zeit zum Erholen angeboten worden wäre. Evtl. sogar ein Hotel buchen.

I was invited straight to an interview in Cologne without any prior phone call. The conversation was really pleasant and mostly just small talk. A little bit of probing about my skills and past project experience, nothing else. About half of the 120 minutes were spent on the company presentation. However, what I find outrageous: After the interview (for which I traveled across the country), there was simply no feedback at all. After 2 weeks, I got tired of waiting and withdrew my application myself, stating that they hadn't gotten back to me and I had accepted another offer in the meantime. Even then, there was no response. This is really embarrassing. Some companies apparently still haven't understood that it's not just the applicant presenting themselves and that consultants in the IT field aren't desperately looking for jobs and therefore will put up with anything.
