So the process kinda starts with us lookin at your app, then a quick chat to see if you're a fit. After that, we get into some structured questions, then some technical and behavioral stuff. We finish with a panel chat, check out if you're a good fit overall, give you some feedback, and then decide if we're gonna make an offer or not.
- Any general questions you want to ask?
- Can you tell me about a time when... (behavioral question)?
Marketing Placement
First, you'll need to send in your CV and a cover letter. Then, you create a profile and do a Hireview. After that, there are some numerical and English tests. The next step is an in-person assessment center which includes mainly generic interview questions. Finally, you'll have a SWOT Analysis presentation task where they give you a £10 voucher to visit one of their sites, and you write a SWOT Analysis on one of their brands.
- Tell me about a time in a university group project when you had to resolve a conflict.
- Could you describe a situation from a university group project where you helped sort out a conflict?
- Recount an instance from a university group project where conflict resolution was necessary.
HR Graduate Scheme
The interview process was long, as is typical for a graduate scheme. First, I completed an online interview with straightforward, basic questions. Then came the Saville Testing for verbal and numerical skills, which was very difficult and more advanced than expected for the role, though I understand its purpose. Next was the Graduate Day at HQ with other graduates, which was a mixed experience and not quite what I anticipated for a HR Graduate role. The office itself is nice but quiet, and people weren't very welcoming during the tour. The morning involved a group task with a tight deadline, making it quite stressful. I realized the role was entry-level, a 12-month fixed-term contract, requiring another interview to continue with the company. This was followed by a relaxed one-on-one interview. Lunch was provided, but dietary needs were overlooked, which was odd. The role seemed slightly different from the advertisement, and I felt it wasn't a good fit as the day progressed. I requested feedback after the day concluded, but M&B did not follow up, which was disappointing given the effort invested. Despite this, the people were lovely, the office is nice, and it's a great graduate role for HR with no prior experience. I know the graduates who were selected had to interview again, so I'd only suggest applying if you have the time and energy for the entire process.
- What restaurant would you choose to visit?
- Can you describe a time when you overcame a challenge?
HR Graduate
So after applying and doing one of those automated video interviews, I got invited to a discovery day. On the day, we first had a Q&A with some people who had done the graduate scheme before. Then, there was a 30-minute competency interview with two recruiters. After that, we had a 45-minute task where we were given the day's newspaper. We had to pick three articles, explain how they were relevant to M&B, and then suggest how M&B should react. We then had to present this to two recruiters and some other candidates for ten minutes. Following the discovery day, we had to do some online tests: a tough maths test and an English test. Finally, I got invited back for an hour-long interview with a former graduate and a senior person. I had to give a ten-minute presentation on adapting to a multigenerational workforce, and they asked questions about it. The rest of that interview was just standard stuff, like why I'm a good fit.
- Why should we pick you?
- Why do you want to work at this company?
- Can you share an instance where you dealt with a difficult situation?
