First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Luno.
Team Lead
The hiring process lasted about 4-5 weeks, but this can change depending on the job. It started with a quick chat with HR, then a take-home test. After that, there was a panel interview with the hiring manager and two team members. If you passed that, you'd interview with the Head of Department. The last step was a "Moontality" interview with three team members to see if you fit Luno’s core values, which they really care about. Overall, it was a good experience. They kept me updated, and the HR team, especially Cameron Ward, was super helpful and answered all my questions. The panel interviews were mostly about competency-based questions, so make sure you’re ready for those.
- Can you share an example of a project you completed that led to a significant change?
Legal Counsel
The interview process is a bit of a lot, but they really want to make sure the person they hire is a great match for the team and the company. It kicks off with a quick chat with HR (Anthea de la Harpe, who's amazing). Then you'll have an interview with the hiring manager, followed by a panel interview, then one about culture fit, and finally, you'll meet with the Global Head of Legal. It all happened really fast, and they kept me in the loop the whole time, with the HR person calling after each step to update me on how I was doing and give me some reassurance.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a specific situation and had to take action?
- Tell me about a time you had to handle a particular challenge or issue.
- Could you recount a situation where you had a disagreement with someone senior to you?
Country Manager
The interview was easy, with mostly standard questions I could answer. After the interview, they gave me a homework test which took me 3 days to complete with my best possible answers and research. I sent it back, but after 3 weeks, I heard nothing. I emailed every week, but they never replied. I was ghosted, which surprised me given the other reviews. Most reviews are good, but that wasn't my experience. My advice: don't apply to this company. If you've applied and have an interview, skip it and go elsewhere. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. They promise to talk to you soon, but that doesn't happen. I applied for a good position and this is how they treated me. I can't imagine how they treat others. Thanks for wasting my time.
- What is your motivation for joining kuno?
Business Onboarding Manager
Went through an interview process that spanned over a few weeks and had to interview with 4 people (individually, so that's 4 interview sessions). After each interview I was advised that I was successful to move on to the next stage. I also had to do an assessment which took a few hours to complete. All interviews went well and they acknowledged assessment was passed too. However, they went silent. I kept following up and eventually got a generic response that my application was not successful. I requested proper feedback and HR advised that the Manager of the department left the company with immediate effect which caused the delay. Also that the position was filled. I found out later through reliable sources that they actually were retrenching people. Common decency would dictate that you don't put people through that entire process if you know retrenchment is lurking in the background, and to get back to the interviewee.
