I sent in my application and heard back in about a week or two. The person who did the phone screening was really nice and the whole thing was pretty chill. She did say it was a big deal that I'd agree to follow the org's rules, which pretty much means dedicating your life to the place – like working there, going to church there, and doing volunteer work when they need it. You'd also have to join a 'hobby' group and commit to tithing 10% of your pay, taken straight from your salary, which was already pretty low. I found it super unethical. If someone's already going to church, you shouldn't force them to tithe. Everyone's gotta earn a living, and I'm not here to sign over my whole life and my spouse's life and salary just so the CEO can live lavishly. So, I pulled out of the running. You should definitely look into this place; the founder is apparently terrible, avoids all criticism, and isn't genuinely religious. He's made it into a business, offering fake comfort instead of real guidance.
- Are you willing to commit your life to the church and donate 10% of your earnings?
- Would you be open to participating in required church activities and doing volunteer work?
Pastor
The interview process is very thorough and designed to see if you align with their values and sustaining attributes. The process involves multiple rounds, extending over multiple months. It is important to the interviewers to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the team, but they also want you to be confident that the team is a good fit for you. It is a challenging experience that helps you grow in your self-awareness, understand the culture of Life.Church on a deeper level, and gauge whether or not joining the team would be your next best step.
- Can you share an instance where you were given feedback that you did not agree with? How did you handle it?
Engineering Manager
I want to say that the thorough and robust interview process really highlights the leadership team's dedication and commitment to excellence. Even though the process had many steps and took many weeks, every test and interview type felt valuable. I learned more about the behind-the-scenes operations and the employer than I anticipated, and they got to know me well. A significant and unique aspect of Life.Church's process is that my spouse was included in several stages. It was deeply appreciated how they recognized our partnership in achieving success. Be ready to know yourself well, as you'll face many challenges and be given resources to handle them throughout. The process, from recruiting and talent acquisition to hiring managers and panel interviews, was engaging. In my 15 years of professional experience (20 if you count jobs during college), this has been the most pleasant and meaningful interview experience to date. Coordinating schedules and staging different phases was handled excellently, and it's clear they're always looking to improve. Your process might be a bit different, but you can expect to interact with genuinely curious and professionally dedicated people who possess the high-caliber skills you'd find in any STEM or growth talent industry. Another notable stage was a central campus tour. The office space's design and setup show how comfortable people are working here, and the intentionality is evident. The soft lighting creates an inviting atmosphere, unlike harsh fluorescent lights! The campus is better equipped than any Fortune 500 company or any campus I've toured, with great amenities. Ongoing new construction and expansion are also in place to support growth!
- If two departments are vying for the same engineer's placement or rotation, how would you decide which department gets priority and what steps would you take to make that determination?
Filmmaker
The interview process was pretty organized and took quite a while. There were five interviews in total, and I talked to 14 people from Life.Church. They asked me about my past work, my faith, leadership, marriage, how I deal with conflict, and my lifestyle. I was really impressed by how intentional Life.Church is about finding people who really fit their culture. It sounds weird but it's true. For the final in-person interview in Oklahoma City, I was amazed by how genuine the staff were. I didn't feel like I had to put on a show, and neither did they. The final interview was pretty intense. My wife and I sat across from eight Life.Church employees from different departments around a weirdly shaped table. They took turns asking us questions and answering ours. We got a break halfway through, which helped me relax and get some feedback from my wife. Afterwards, we had lunch, and then we heard back about the results from the hiring managers. My only complaint about the whole process is that I didn't get to interact with anyone of my own race. I mentioned it during the final interview, and the staff acknowledged they fell short, apologized, and were open to my feedback.
