First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Life.Church.
Software Engineer
I had a timed technical assessment that lasted 65 minutes. Unfortunately, I didn't get an offer because I didn't pass it. The overall interview process was pretty light and conversational. Each part of the process took about a week. It's important to be ready for JavaScript and some SQL questions.
- What are some JavaScript questions?
- Can you give me some backend database query questions?
Software Engineer
The interviewer didn't bring up the job until I inquired. The interview felt like a test of my faith, more than anything. While I understand this might be relevant for a church organization, there was minimal discussion about my qualifications, work history, or the role itself until the very end, which is unusual for a technical position. They seem to strictly adhere to their rules, which they frame as religiously motivated (specifically, that you're a minister, not an employee, and must tithe to the church). These rules offer a financial advantage to the church through tax benefits, which they didn't disclose when explaining the rules' purpose. This approach felt disingenuous, possibly even manipulative. I don't fault Life.Church for having these rules from a business perspective, but I took issue with them being presented as solely altruistic and scriptural when other factors were clearly influencing them.
- Can you share about your relationship with Jesus?
- What are your spiritual practices on a daily basis?
- How would you describe your prayer life?
Software Engineer
This interview process was quite different from any I'd experienced before. It was really thorough, detailed, and intense. It all culminated in an interview weekend where I spent the whole day going through different interview aspects. They were designed to really get to the core of who I was and whether I'd be a cultural fit for the company.
- Can you describe a time when you took a leadership role?
- Share an instance where you faced and overcame a challenge.
- What is your definition of grit?
