Vacation Scheme
The interview was super chill and conversational. They asked basic motivation questions and talked about my work experience and extracurriculars listed on my CV. They also presented a hypothetical deal and asked which departments would be involved.

- Considering a given deal scenario, identify the involved departments.
Summer Associate
Right from the start, the place felt really welcoming and professional. Everyone was nice and paid attention to me, which helped me relax. A big thing they talked about was how they work together, showing that they really care about teamwork and helping each other out, which is important to me. They also told me about some really interesting cases they're working on, which got me even more excited about the type of law they do.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
Practice Assistant
My interview with Jones Day really surprised me because they seemed really focused on hiring charismatic people for the team. It was unexpected coming from such a big firm with over 2700 employees. I felt I was way more qualified than needed for the position but didn't get it. This was pretty early in my job search, so I think my lack of confidence during the interview might have been the issue. The interviewer didn't smile at all, which made me more nervous.
- Beyond your resume and job history, tell me about yourself from a personal perspective, focusing on what you enjoy doing in your free time.
Vac Scheme
I had an informal online chat with a partner and a senior associate. It was really friendly. Before that, I spoke with a first-year trainee for about 15 minutes. The interview questions were specifically chosen based on my background, like my international experience and uni connections.
- Why did you choose to study law instead of [x industry]?
- What interests you about JD?
- Could you describe the typical stages of an M&A process and identify which JD teams would be involved?
