I applied online at the end of May, and the interview process began in early June. It kicked off with a phone screening where HR asked me about my background and experiences. I initially applied for an Android developer role, but due to my lack of industrial experience, HR suggested I switch to the Apprentice program, which is for fresh graduates. Then, she set up a 30-minute technical phone interview for me. During that call, I was asked two questions using remote white-boarding, and one question was just for ideas without actual coding. Two days later, I got an invitation for an onsite interview at their Boston office. The onsite involved three one-on-one technical interviews, each lasting about 45 minutes. Each interviewer posed two questions requiring white-boarding. Overall, the experience was very positive, and the people were nice to talk to.

  • Simple questions like inverting a string, then inverting a string in-place, and valid parentheses were asked.
  • There was a design question that I hadn't encountered before, which made me struggle a lot, and I can't recall the specifics...

Technical Coding Behavioral

I applied for an iOS Developer job at Intrepid in NYC back in November 2015. The interview process involved two in-person technical interviews which were pretty tough. Soon after the second one, an HR person called and said I was getting an offer, detailing the salary and benefits. She mentioned a written contract would follow a video call with the CTO. The next week, I had a 30-minute video chat with the CTO, which was a standard behavioral/culture fit chat. A few days later, the HR person contacted me again, but this time to offer an apprentice role, which paid way less than half of the initial offer and had no benefits. I expressed my confusion, and a few days after that, she called again stating they 'forgot' about a small salary increase in the apprenticeship for New York. Over the next week, I tried to reconnect with the CTO to resolve the situation and see if the original offer could be reinstated. Setting up a call was really difficult. Two hours before our scheduled call, his assistant canceled and then rescheduled for the next day. Then she informed me the CEO, not the CTO, would call at the original time. The CEO called shortly after for a brief talk, rescinding any potential offers because 'trust was broken.' I then sent a detailed email expressing my disappointment while also providing constructive criticism on their process. I never got a response. My entire experience with Intrepid was incredibly unprofessional, the worst I've had in over a decade. I received conflicting information constantly, and it was clear they were disorganized and dishonest. Responses to emails were very slow. Their lack of organization, communication, and transparency was shocking. I never got a clear answer and felt patronized. On a positive note, I really liked the engineers there; they seemed great and were the only reason I stuck with it. It's a shame they work for Intrepid. If you're interviewing there and feel uneasy or something seems wrong, I highly recommend asking questions because your doubts are likely valid.

Technical Behavioral

It was a three stage interview process. First you have the HR round, then a technical phone interview, along with an onsite. The phone interview was not bad. However, after looking at some of the glassdoor reviews, and then speaking to HR... it occurred to me that this company does not really promote a culture that I want to be a part of. More specifically, the way this company is run, encourages favoritism (which is one of the main complaints from employees working there). I never ended up showing up to the on-site interview of this (it's a three hour drive each way, it's not worth going, if I know I don't want the job because of the favoritism and Brogrammer Culture).

I had a phone screening. But it took a lot of time to get that phone screen done because the interviewer was late 3 times. On the first phone screening, she was late about 40 minutes, and didn't send a message to let me know that she was going to be late. So I rescheduled. On the second phone screening, she was late as well, so we rescheduled for 2 hours later to which she was late 10 minutes again. Punctuality is not a value of this company. After talking with her on the phone for 20 minutes, she said she'd let me know be the next they. They didn't even push me through to the next technical round although I've been studying web development for 2 years, and believe this opportunity would have been amazing because of the mentor-style program.
