Immigration Officer
I applied for the Immigration Officer (Immigration Enforcement) role in May 2024 and finished the required strengths-based assessment by May 23rd, scoring better than 61% of Civil Service candidates. Although the process was supposed to be timely, the initial sifting and interview stages were really delayed, and my interview wasn't until late July. After that, I was told I met the standard but was put on a reserve list until August 2025, with no job offer then. In March 2025, I got an email asking if I was still interested in staying on the list, and I said yes. Even though I confirmed my interest and contacted HR, I didn't hear back, just got an automated message in August saying I was removed from the reserve list. The Civil Service recruitment process is meant to be fair and structured, but my experience was that it was too bureaucratic and not transparent. For people who put in a lot of time and effort into assessments and interviews, not getting feedback or follow-up is discouraging and inefficient. A more responsive and candidate-focused approach would really improve things.
- Can you share an instance of when you collaborated effectively within a team?
- Describe an experience where you effectively communicated and influenced others.
- Tell me about a time you were involved in changing or improving a process or situation.
Presenting Officer
So it was a presentation that I was given during the interview, and then I only had 20 minutes to prepare, explain, and justify my decisions. I was also expected to research some sites they provided, as well as my own. There just wasn't enough time to absorb it all and process it. It doesn't really reflect the job or the role accurately because typically when presenting cases in court, you have some idea of the case, even if a new challenge arises. This was a different situation. I get that they want to see how quickly you can understand and present something, but 20 minutes on a big question isn't sufficient.
- Can you explain how you arrived at that decision?
Benefits Manager
The process began with a positive and engaging recruiter call from Peregrine, followed by submitting my CV. Then there was one stage Teams interview with two members of the organization. The process was very clear and engaging throughout. Arranging the interview took a few weeks due to availability, but I received feedback/outcome within 2 working days.
- Tell me about your general understanding of benefits.
- Can you share your experience in the benefits field?
Administrative
It was a recorded interview. They asked 8 strength-based and behavioral questions. The first three were about delivering behavior at pace, managing quality service, and making effective decisions. The rest were about strengths. There were no technical questions, and most questions were pretty general. I had 1 minute to record my answers, and I only got one attempt for each question.
- Can you share an instance where you were responsible for managing a quality service?
- Tell me about a situation where you had to deliver behavior at pace.
- Describe a time you were required to make effective decisions.
