First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Home Office.
Administrative
It was a recorded interview. They asked 8 strength-based and behavioral questions. The first three were about delivering behavior at pace, managing quality service, and making effective decisions. The rest were about strengths. There were no technical questions, and most questions were pretty general. I had 1 minute to record my answers, and I only got one attempt for each question.
- Can you share an instance where you were responsible for managing a quality service?
- Tell me about a situation where you had to deliver behavior at pace.
- Describe a time you were required to make effective decisions.
Administration Assistant
So first I had to submit a personal statement of about 200 words. After that, I got an invite for a Teams interview which was conducted online. During the interview, I was asked one warm-up question about my hobbies, a behavioral question about a time I delivered at pace in a team, and three questions focused on my strengths in delivering results quickly.
- Can you describe a situation where you and your team worked at a fast pace to achieve a goal?
- Tell me about your hobbies.
- What are your key strengths when it comes to meeting deadlines and delivering results quickly?
Executive Assistant
After applying online using Civil Service behaviors, there's an interview. They might ask for another example from your application. All questions will be about the competencies from the application. You MUST use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) or you probably won't pass. This helps the panel track your examples and the behaviors you've shown.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to complete a task under a strict deadline?
