I applied for this role online, completed all the paperwork and attachments. I filled out the application with my details and eligibility questions, but they didn't ask about UK residency, which later became an issue. I provided my non-UK address and contact details. The job spec had vague residency guidelines, but didn't explicitly state UK residency was mandatory. I was invited to interview and placed on the reserve list. A few weeks later, I received a call on my non-UK number, asking me to come to the office for an 'informal chat' about a similar position. After this chat, I was offered this position, contingent on security clearance. My non-UK residency was mentioned several times during both interviews and all my correspondence. It's surprising this didn't raise concerns if it was essential. I also submitted a non-UK driving licence and utility bill as requested, and still, no concerns were raised. Four months after my initial application, I was informed by a Government Recruitment Service team member that my security checks couldn't proceed due to my lack of UK residency. The person who offered me the job never responded to my follow-up emails. Others I spoke to avoided the topic, saying they don't conduct checks before offering interviews. If residency is as crucial as nationality, it should be a question on the application. Every person I've contacted has quoted different vague references to residency requirements, like 'normally being resident' or 'reasonable period of residency', or even that 'residency outside the UK is not an automatic bar' to clearance, showing a lack of clarity. I've tried explaining that while I understand clearance checks can't be done before an offer, basic requirements should be considered before interviews, but no one seems to listen. When applying for other CS jobs, I now email the contact to confirm these details, but I've received incorrect information multiple times, suggesting nobody really knows.

We had a friendly chat about my experience and skills, focusing on my time in the Civil Service. The interview panel had two people: the Hiring Manager and another senior manager from the team I'd be joining. They dug into my CV and asked questions directly related to my experience. It was about an hour long and felt professional.

I submitted my application online. After waiting over a month, I was invited for an interview in London. There were 3 interviewers on the morning of the interview, and they were all project managers/leaders. The interview took the best part of the morning. I waited a couple of weeks for the result. Overall, it was a professional and well-organised process.
