First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hella.
Lead Data Engineer
The hiring process was a mess, they brought up a Python requirement during the interview even though the take-home was already in Python. The questions were way too easy for a Lead role, not much in terms of system design or real technical stuff. The interviewer was a jerk, sarcastic and shot down my pipeline work saying it was wrong. They went 50 minutes over time and were super vague when I asked about the project. This job's been open forever and it felt like they weren't really serious about hiring anyone.
- Basic AWS, SQL and the difference between Python and Pandas based on the take-home assessment.
Software Engineer
The process felt a bit strange; I'm even questioning if the position was genuinely open or if they already had a candidate in mind before the interview, given the nature of the questions and responses. The questions weren't technical nor based on my experience or knowledge, but rather on whether I had used or followed a specific tool/process. Obviously, the questions weren't this direct, but it was clear they were expecting a particular type of answer.
- What type of algorithm did you use to solve X?
Project Manager
Had an initial chat with HR, then scheduled an online interview with the hiring manager. After that went well and we discussed my experience, work ethics, and life-work balance, I had another interview with the division manager, who was interested in getting to know me personally.
- Can you share details about your past experience?
- What are your career aspirations for the future?
- What salary are you looking for?
Automotive Engineer
The interview process has three stages. The first two are technical rounds, focusing on engineering basics, physics fundamentals, and general engineering concepts. The third round is a general HR discussion about work-life balance and other aspects.
- Can you discuss your project concerning Motor control?
