First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hack The Box.
Customer Success Associate
This company's approach to onboarding is unique; instead of just compliance training and a badge, they prioritize building connections first. They introduce you to the team before you even start, showing they value how people interact and build culture through everyday moments, like knowing names and fun facts, which helps teams bond. This isn't a corporate formality; it's personal and direct, indicating they live their culture rather than just performing it. They demonstrate psychological safety by how they treat you from the start, unlike military or government onboarding which is more about paperwork. HTB recognizes that the people are as crucial as the technology, creating an environment where good work happens.

QA Manager
I applied in November but didn't hear back until mid-January for a Head of QA role leading a team of 10 (6 manual, 4 automation). The job description mentioned hands-on work, mentoring, and frameworks like Playwright, suggesting a technical role given the product. However, it quickly became clear during the interview that technical skills and mentoring were less important, with the recruiter describing the role as a 'Process Owner'. I left the call questioning if such a person could manage in a security-focused SaaS environment where some QAs act as leads, and if the recruiter misunderstood the requirements or if the role description itself reflected an outdated QA model.
- What part of managing do you enjoy the most?
Software Engineer
First, they reviewed my CV, LinkedIn, GitHub, and HTB accounts, and there were some reasoning/logic tests. Then, I had a 90-minute HR interview, which was quite long. After a quick intro to the company, I had to introduce myself and answer questions about soft skills, like how I deal with tough situations in a team. Next, I got a technical take-home assignment that I had a few days for, but it was pretty straightforward. It covered both backend and frontend stuff, with some extra credit for database tasks. After submitting, the final step was a discussion/presentation about my take-home assignment with the technical team.
- What motivated you to apply to Hack The Box?
Head of Graphic Design
So I interviewed for the Head of Graphic Design role at Hack The Box, and it was a really good time. The process was really solid and made me feel like they cared about finding the right person. First, I chatted with HR, who was super nice and professional, and really seemed to care about my background and what I wanted to do. Then I talked to the Director of Marketing, and this was a big one. They seemed really focused on whether I'd fit in with the team and company culture. We basically just bounced ideas off each other. After that, I got three mini assignments to show what I could do – they were tough but fair and totally related to the job. Then came the best part: I met with the Director of Marketing, two senior designers, and a Marketing Manager to present my assignments. It felt really collaborative, and they gave me good feedback. The last interview was with the CEO, which was awesome and showed me they're really open. The CEO asked some really interesting questions. Finally, they gave me an offer, which was great and competitive, and I accepted. It was a great experience all around.
