Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hack The Box.
Software Engineer
First, they reviewed my CV, LinkedIn, GitHub, and HTB accounts, and there were some reasoning/logic tests. Then, I had a 90-minute HR interview, which was quite long. After a quick intro to the company, I had to introduce myself and answer questions about soft skills, like how I deal with tough situations in a team. Next, I got a technical take-home assignment that I had a few days for, but it was pretty straightforward. It covered both backend and frontend stuff, with some extra credit for database tasks. After submitting, the final step was a discussion/presentation about my take-home assignment with the technical team.
- What motivated you to apply to Hack The Box?
Software Engineer
The interview process happened a while back to build a candidate pool. First, there was a chat with a developer about how they work and their tech stack. Then, a coding assignment was given, with a week to complete it. After that, a technical talk about the assignment's solution. The assignment was flexible in interpretation and tech choice, with different levels likely producing different solutions. Next, a meeting with the Tech Lead, followed by a detailed chat with HR about personality, which felt quite challenging. Lastly, a brief meeting with the CEO. The whole experience was surprisingly friendly and informal, which helped my real personality show. I liked the developers' honesty about their work challenges and benefits, and the lack of rigid formalities, like not even needing a formal CV, just LinkedIn.
- Can you share an instance of a positive or challenging interaction you've had with a coworker?
- Describe a situation where you made a significant positive contribution to your work and outline its impact.
Software Engineer
This was hands down the best experience I have had in my career. I enjoyed every step of it and in the process I found professionals that I would like to work with. First step was with HR, we talked about my work experience and also about the company and the details for the position. Second step was a discussion with Tech Leads where they assessed my skills and we discussed about the company and tech related topics. Third step was the assessment which I thoroughly enjoyed and put my best foot forward, it surely felt meaningful and gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills and knowledge. Final step was the technical discussion with the Tech Leads on the assessment where we went deeper into code and technical stuff as well as soft skills discussions. I really wish more companies would take note of how important it is to have a hiring process like Hack The Box does. I am really happy and proud to be part of the team!
- Can you tell me about your experience with Javascript frameworks and libraries, and also about your soft skills?
