Graphic Designer
I had a couple of video interviews with the main team and HR. We chatted over Zoom, and I showed them my portfolio, explaining how my background fits what you guys need for this job. It was a quick and easy process, and I didn't have to do any design tests.
- Can you tell me about your experience designing graphics for packaging?
- What about your background designing graphics for marketing materials?
- What are your thoughts on the culture surrounding action sports?
Marketing Associate
So first there was this recruiter call, it was like a quick screening. She asked me stuff like why I wanted this job, what experience I have, if I've worked with other teams before, and to tell her about a team I was on. She also asked where I'm at in my job search. Then, the hiring manager reached out. We talked about the job details, and they asked about my experience related to the role, working with others, what KPIs I've tracked, and my interest level. I got to ask them questions too.
- Could you tell me about the KPIs you've tracked for marketing campaigns?
- Can you describe a marketing team you've been a part of?
Software Engineer
I interviewed for a senior software engineer role at GoPro about four months back, and it was a bit of a mixed experience. The initial outreach from the recruiting firm was good, and we talked about my background and what I was looking for salary-wise. The GoPro recruiter I chatted with was nice too, and we had a solid talk about my potential contributions. Even though the recruiting firm and GoPro recruiter and I discussed salary upfront, the final offer was way lower than I expected. The interview stages themselves, including a good chat with the hiring manager and a thorough technical test, went pretty well. I nailed the coding exercise, and the recruiter quickly started the internal offer process. But then, the offer came in as a lowball, a good $20K less than the range I'd already shared. When I turned down the first offer and restated my expectations, the recruiter mentioned company constraints, saying engineers with way more experience (like 12 years) were making less. That made me feel like my skills weren't valued, and it was a bummer that the work I put into the interviews didn't translate into a decent offer. While some parts of the interview were positive, the big gap between my salary expectations and the final offer made me hesitant about GoPro's commitment to fairly compensating experienced engineers. The whole negotiation felt like a waste of time, and it made me wonder if they really value senior engineers. Plus, the fast promotion of junior folks to senior roles in a short period is also a bit questionable, based on their marketing videos. So, yeah, I can't really recommend GoPro for engineers looking for fair pay and recognition.
- Could you write a multithreaded program to compress all the videos in a given folder?
Network Engineer
I applied online. The whole process took almost three weeks. The entire recruitment process was coordinated and supervised by the company recruiter Rae Badian. She followed up thoroughly with me on each stage, keep me informed about the results, planning with me the next step - interview and giving detailed explanations regarding the persons I will meet. In total there were 6 interviews & conf calls: - a phone interview with the company recruiter - a Webex video conference with the Hiring Manager - interview with Romania Site Manager - interview with Romanian IT & Security Team - interview with US Network Engineering Team - interview with GoPro Tech Managers
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Describe a time you faced a difficult technical challenge and how you overcame it.
