First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at General Dynamics.
Software Engineer Intern
So GDIT's first interview was a behavioral chat. They wanted to get a feel for my background, my experiences, and how I work in teams and professional settings. We talked about my past projects, how I deal with tough situations, and how I team up with others to solve problems. I shared examples of when I showed I could solve problems, adapt, and communicate well while working towards a common goal.
- Can you tell me about a project you worked on and what its biggest challenge was?
Project Controller
The interview itself was fine, the people interviewing me were professional and made me feel comfortable. It was a two-way conversation where I felt I did well with the questions asked and also got to ask my own. However, it's been about 6 weeks and I haven't heard back, even after following up a couple of weeks ago. I know I didn't get the job because I saw the posting on LinkedIn again. It would have been nice to hear back directly, and maybe get some feedback.
- A few competency based questions were asked.
- I was asked a lot about my experience and processes I follow in my current project role.
Data Entry Clerk
HR emailed me saying I was a good fit for the Data Entry Clerk position. The next step was to fill out a questionnaire and send it back, after which HR would review it to see if they wanted to proceed to another interview. I submitted the questionnaire on Friday and got an email on Monday saying they wanted to move forward. They wanted me to click a Teams link to schedule a call with an HR person to get more info about the job. I was a bit suspicious because I hadn't clicked any links before. I asked if the HR manager could just send me a direct meeting invite link instead. They replied with 'I already sent you a link'. I then asked for the phone number of the HR person I was supposed to talk to, but I haven't heard back. I'm starting to think this might be a scam.
- What is your experience dealing with challenging people?
Contract Manager
I got ghosted after applying. A recruiter called me two days later to schedule an interview with the hiring manager in Saco, Maine. I had the interview a week later. It was a standard interview where we discussed my experience. The hiring manager gave me an overview of her team and said I was a good fit since I wouldn't need much training and had all the necessary experience. She mentioned an in-person interview the following week. Three weeks went by with no contact, so I reached out. She told me no decision had been made and that HR should have contacted me, which confused me. HR never responded to my email. I called HR a few days later and was told the position was filled. The hiring manager seemed unaware the role was already filled, suggesting it might have been a fake posting. They have a bad reputation.
