This interview was with Exiger, a company that recently acquired XSB, based in Setauket, NY. The recruiter didn't mention travel, but XSB expects employees to commute to Setauket for several days monthly, which is a 1.5-2 hour drive from the city. They seem to be working with old legacy systems and might not be up-to-date with modern development practices or technologies. The interview lasted two hours and included behavioral questions using the STAR method and technical questions. Many of the technical questions were very basic computer science and OOP concepts, focusing heavily on Java specifics, as they appear to be a Java-only shop. The atmosphere seemed a bit unenjoyable with one of the interviewers lacking personality.

It was a straightforward interview process with a couple of chats with managers and senior staff. They asked me how I'd tackle some of the recruitment issues the company is currently dealing with. The entire experience felt casual, which I actually liked better than the typical formal Q&A, as it made things less stressful.

The recruiter mentioned a rapid hiring event. The Exiger admin who initiated the call stated there would be three interviews: a resume review, a culture fit assessment, and a case study. The interviews were not conducted in the sequence initially presented. The admin also informed us about receiving prompt feedback and an email survey, neither of which I received. I had to repeatedly contact the recruiter for an update. The process deviated from what was described, which was inconvenient for candidates who rearranged their schedules and prepared for this event on short notice (24 hours).

I applied for the job and got a call back from the Talent Acquisition contact to schedule the next call, which was a video interview. Both interactions went really well in my opinion, and I was told I'd be moving on to the third interview once the person in charge of the operation got back from vacation in about a week. That was over a month ago. I've sent follow up emails to both contacts and on LinkedIn with no response. Exiger totally ghosted me. It's a real bummer because my family and I were really excited about the opportunity. We went out for a nice dinner to celebrate after that second interview. I wish I knew what happened.
