Coding System Design

The interview started with a coding round where I was asked a medium-difficulty question from GeeksforGeeks. Then, there was a system design round, which was pretty good, and they asked me to design a video streaming pipeline. Unfortunately, I got rejected after the second round, so I'm not sure about any subsequent stages.

The hiring process began with an application and resume screening, followed by an initial HR screening. Then there were technical screenings and assessments, leading into technical interviews. After that, there were managerial and leadership interviews. The technical interviews included coding interviews where we solved algorithmic problems on a whiteboard or computer, system design interviews focusing on designing scalable and efficient systems, and domain-specific interviews related to the specific technologies or frameworks relevant to the role. We also had pair programming sessions and completed online coding tests or technical assessments on platforms like HackerRank, LeetCode, or company-specific coding challenges.

Technical Coding Case

HR did an initial screening and then set up 2 rounds. Round 1 was purely technical, focusing heavily on SQL and a bit of Python if you were lucky. The interviewer jumped straight into difficult SQL questions, expecting quick answers. Round 2 was with a product manager, covering product sense, KPIs, and mini case studies. That interviewer was great, and I had a pleasant experience.

Hotstar is known for not getting back to candidates after interviews. There are four rounds total: problem-solving/product design, analytics, strategy, and a bar raiser. My first two rounds (product design and analytics) went well, so the recruiter scheduled the next ones. My strategy round didn't go great, so I asked to reschedule the bar raiser because I wasn't feeling well, but the recruiter pushed me to do it, saying it would be hard to find another time for the panel. I didn't have a choice, so I went ahead, and it didn't go well. I thought I'd get rejected after the bar raiser, but surprisingly, they called me for an HR round. It was a general chat, and they asked about my salary expectations. I mentioned wanting to reschedule the bar raiser, but the recruiter insisted I do the interview then.

Given a non-decreasing sequence and an integer k, determine the count of elements remaining if each element can appear at most k times. For instance, with k=2 and the sequence 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 3 3 4 4, the result is 1 2 2 3 3 4 4, thus 7 elements remain.
