I had to take a sql test where I had to fix some bad data. Then, in the actual interview, I had to explain my answers and walk through my thought process. We also talked about different strategies for building dashboards and for doing adhoc data pulls. After that, there were some follow up chats with data engineers and program managers. Overall, it was a pretty good experience.

Waste. Of. Time. Did a 30 minute screening with recruiter, 30 minute interview with hiring manager, and a 45 min panel with people who would be your peers. Not people in leadership or tenured. Someone who had been with the company EIGHT months was on the panel. Be prepared for possibly 4 interviews and then to be told no. I understand not selecting candidates but it doesn’t take 3-4 interviews to determine who is the best fit. Lack of consideration for people’s time.

The interview process had 3 remote interviews, and HR managed it well. I was disappointed to not get an offer despite positive feedback during interviews and feeling like a perfect fit. Apparently, my k8 debugging skills weren't good enough, although it was the funniest k8 interview I've had. The k8 tasks aren't realistic and are actually quite simple once you figure them out. I was prepared for real-world scenarios and passed the CKA exam a week later, which shows how good their screening was. I'd change this if I joined, but as others have noted, there might be other factors. Talking to other engineers, a pattern emerges where passing all stages with positive feedback doesn't guarantee an offer. This is how hiring works for companies with continuous hiring and few open roles. So, it might be a waste of time.

Interviews started late, and some folks asked weird questions like what gives you energy. They asked a lot of data science questions too early on, even though they didn't have data science experience. Pay transparency was bad, and they weren't following California law, being evasive about pay ranges and pushing me to give one first. They seemed to favor health tech experience, even though they hadn't worked in health tech themselves. The product sense and metrics interview felt like asking for free ideas because it was so specific to Clover Health, and it wasn't a fair playing field since they had way more context than I did.
