First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City National Bank.
Communications Specialist
The interview process was pretty bad. It was a total of 7 rounds, with the last one being in person. My recruiter kept saying she'd update me between rounds but never did, so I was constantly chasing her for info. After the 6th round, she ghosted me for 4 weeks straight before I had to ask again. The final interview was in person, a 1.5-hour drive for just a 30-minute chat with the hiring manager. She then told me I was the top candidate and would get the job, telling me not to worry if she didn't call. True to form, she then disappeared for another 3 weeks, even after I asked for an update. It became obvious I wasn't getting the job. A week later, she finally called to say they hired someone internal. The whole process felt super disorganized and unclear. They also mentioned they're moving from a 4-day to a 5-day workweek, which is good to know.
- What makes you want to join this company?
Loan Intake Specialist
It started with a recruiter email, then a Teams meeting with the Dept manager, and finally a Teams call with an Underwriter. The first two interactions were good. For the third interview, two Underwriters were supposed to join, but only one showed up over 10 minutes late. They never introduced themselves and didn't have their camera on, unlike myself and the other underwriter. I wasn't even sure they were there. When I asked them how many closers they had, neither of them knew.
- What is the maximum number of loans you have managed simultaneously?
Data Analyst Intern
The interview process started with a 30-minute phone interview focusing on your experience. Following that, there was a group interview. This involved moving between Zoom rooms to speak with potential managers. It was a unique way to see different departments and figure out who you might want to work with. Everyone was really friendly and asked typical questions to learn about candidates and their backgrounds. There was also time set aside to ask the recruiters questions, so it's a good idea to prepare something to ask to make yourself stand out!
- Can you share an instance where you utilized data?
Risk Manager
I had a good first chat with the recruiter. The hiring manager really liked me and seemed eager for me to join the team. My next set of interviews with two team members also went really well! Then I had an interview with the senior director, which was a terrible experience. She seemed uninterested and annoyed from the start, even yawning during our video call. She appeared to be disappointed that I wasn't a man, which was odd given that all the previous team members I met were men. I was excited to meet a female senior leader, but her approach was very disappointing. She immediately said she didn't understand why the interview was scheduled as there was nothing new she could tell me. This made the job I was excited about seem unlikely. I was very upset afterwards and considered filing a discrimination complaint, but decided to wait and discuss it with the recruiter, who never followed up. I won't consider this company again or recommend them.
