Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City National Bank.
Intern
The interview process was really simple. It began with a relaxed screening call with someone from the company, followed by a formal "Superday" interview where I met with three people from the company. The Superday involved questions that were a mix of behavioral and a couple of accounting/credit technical ones.
- Describe a situation where you explored something out of curiosity.
Intern
I applied with a cover letter and then had a phone interview. After that, I was invited for a super day, which involved four 30-minute interviews back-to-back. These interviews were with people from different bank divisions and were mostly about personality and fit. Some questions did test my knowledge of financial statements, specifically what to consider when approving a loan.
- If you were acting as a banker, what key factors would you assess prior to approving a loan for a client?
- What are the essential elements a banker considers when evaluating a loan application?
- What aspects of financial statements are crucial when determining loan eligibility?
Intern
I applied in December and then got an interview in February. First, there was a phone interview with very basic questions. Then, I was called in for an on-site interview. I was actually late to the on-site interview, but they were really understanding and welcoming. The interviewer was very kind and listened carefully to my project descriptions. They also explained in detail the projects their team was working on and how I could fit in. They noticed my enthusiasm. It was a smooth interview, and I felt relaxed afterwards, even though I was nervous going in.
- Can you elaborate on the projects you have worked on?
