I just had one of the best interview experiences ever across multiple industries, but the Vacations industry will always hold a special place in my heart. I am so excited to start my new role at the world's No. 1 Vacation Ownership Company and join the amazing leaders and team I was just hired to be a part of.

I got an email asking me to text a number to set up an interview. When I got there, I was 15 minutes early and called, but no one answered. Some Bass Pro employees were nice and helped me find the place. I waited over 30 minutes for my interview to start. The interviewer was unprofessional, kept checking his phone, and even got up to get his charger. He also got up to greet the next interviewer, which he didn't do for me. I also learned he lied about how long he and the previous manager had worked there; the previous manager didn't get fired, he quit! I was then offered a panel interview for the next day. I almost didn't go after the first interview, but I did it for the experience. Right before the panel, they told me they had filled the position but offered me a higher one if I relocated to Michigan. I couldn't relocate, and they messaged me that their sales manager didn't work out (after only one day) and they still wanted to do the panel interview.

Applied to a few HR roles and was contacted by a recruiter for a virtual interview. On the day of the interview, after waiting 5 minutes, no one showed up. I got an email saying the recruiter couldn't make it, which felt unprofessional given my interest in the company. They rescheduled, and we spoke about the position. Months passed with no follow-up, not even a rejection. I reached out to someone on LinkedIn in the department who had posted about ghosting candidates, and after explaining I was ghosted by their team, they apologized and arranged a meeting with the head of HR. I then met with another HR executive. It's been 6 weeks since then with no word. My advice to recruiting is to respect candidates' time, as I also rearranged my schedule and took time off to meet them, and I felt completely disregarded.

Behavioral Presentation

The recruiter found me on LinkedIn and was quite aggressive in scheduling a time to talk, even though I'm already employed. We had about 2 conversations. Then I met with the owner of the agency, who was impressive. When speaking to the agency and the client directly, it seemed they had a different understanding of the job description. The agency thought the position would have direct reports, but the VP of Talent said that wasn't the case. It's odd that the job description wasn't understood thoroughly or that there were differing views of the role. This isn't a minor detail; 0 direct reports versus 14 is a vast difference and would affect the targeted candidate. Additionally, the recruiter mentioned another person I currently work with and tried to play it off, revealing that my co-worker was involved in the search. I had a fantastic interview with the VP of Talent, who was very aggressive in trying to bring me in, which was a little inconsiderate of my schedule as someone employed. The call went very well, and before it ended, we talked about availability, and she said she couldn't wait to meet me. Then there was radio silence. I had to track down the recruiter. More radio silence, so I called. She stated they wanted to go in a different direction and were having a final interview with another candidate. I pointed out that this was inconsistent with what their client told me directly on the phone. I asked for feedback, and she said she'd gather it next week after their client call. I never got the feedback. While it's okay to change your mind, they seemed to lack the ability to manage candidate expectations. What's wild is the inconsistency between 'can't wait to meet you and bring you in' and then radio silence. This was the worst interview experience I've ever seen.
