Applied via LinkedIn. HR chat first, really nice, asked about career goals and why Woven. It took 3 weeks to get to the next stage because of some re-org. The second round was a Leetcode medium problem with a senior engineer and another engineer who just shadowed. I didn't get the optimal solution but did provide a naive one quickly. It took another 2 weeks for the third round, a system design interview with a UK tech lead. It was for a small architecture, not a huge platform, so they were probably checking if I over-engineer things. Be ready to deeply explain every component of your design. The fourth round was with my potential future manager, mostly focused on culture fit, my resume, and using the STAR method for questions. Having scripted stories ready is helpful. The fifth round was with a department head from the UK, another behavioral interview. This interviewer really dug into my stories to verify them, which was pretty stressful. Got a verbal offer a week later, followed by salary negotiation.

The first interview was a coding screen with a software engineer who had a more senior engineer observing. My approach to the coding question involved using associative container properties the junior engineer didn't know. It felt like I was teaching them. The on-site interviews were surprising, with four in total. Three were manager interviews, all quite similar, asking scripted behavioral questions that seemed to assess how one would handle a difficult work environment. The coding interview involved a question needing a complex combination of data structures. My solution was three times less efficient than what they were looking for. Overall, the interview process didn't give me a good impression of Woven.

I went through a few interview stages. There wasn't any live coding. I talked to people on the team both locally and from overseas. It felt pretty relaxed and casual. The interviewers didn't really come with a set list of questions for me. Instead, they let me talk about my past experiences and what I thought about the work. They then asked follow-up questions based on what I shared, so it's important to be clear about what you mean.

I started interviewing for this role in early December, and there were 5 interviews total spanning December to February. First was a Recruiter Call, a pretty chill chat about the job and my fit. Then an HR Screen, which was a mix of behavioral stuff and technical questions, covering basic computer science and C development, plus my past experience. The Hiring Manager Interview was mostly me asking them about the company, role, and team, but they did ask some security questions at the end, especially about embedded security. Then a Technical Interview where I had to show my C and C++ coding security practices, including reviewing code for issues and writing my own secure code. Finally, a Cross-Team Interview with more behavioral questions. Everyone I talked to was really nice, and the team seemed awesome. The difficulty felt right for the job. The downside? After all that, they kept me waiting for about 3 weeks, even though they said the interviews went great and they were just waiting on final approval. I had to turn down two other offers because of this. Then, out of nowhere, they told me the position was being cut.
