First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WillowTree.
Solutions Architect Director
The interview had a role-play presentation where I was given a requirements or case study document. I had to outline the business and technical solution for a team role-playing as clients. The scenario was detailed and their requirements were clear. It was a sophisticated interview that required prep time to deliver on. This presentation was done twice: first to a small group of "day-to-day stakeholders" and then to a larger, more diverse group of "client executives".

Software Engineer
So the hiring team itself was great, honestly one of the best interview experiences I've had. But the company's overall process? Horrific. They asked about psychological safety in a culture interview, which seemed promising. But it turns out WillowTree is lying about valuing psychological safety because they'll rescind an offer if you ask too many questions about the fine print. They then had the nerve to send a candidate survey asking for feedback, which is just comically bad after rescinding an offer. It's like they're asking to be embarrassed by their own broken processes.
- What is your understanding of psychological safety?
Product Researcher
I saw the job on LinkedIn and applied on their site. Got an email from the recruiter the same day and set up an interview for the next week. The next day, I got a rejection email saying they'd gone with another candidate. It seemed fishy because the recruiter said they were still hiring during the interview, then a day later they said they'd already hired someone. They're wasting people's time.

Software Test Engineer
So first, there was this one-way video interview thing where you answer a bunch of questions. They were mostly about behavior, but you'll probably talk about your past experiences. Then, I had a 30-minute call with HR, which was also mostly behavioral. They asked if I knew any testing frameworks and wanted me to talk more about my experience. They also asked about a project on my resume and my favorite class. After that, it was a one-hour semi-technical interview with a senior test engineer where we really dug into my experience and how I approach problems. The final round was a bunch of interviews. I talked to more HR and PR people. Then there was a technical interview where I went over an assignment where I had to research a specific testing framework, which took me about 2-3 hours to prep for. After the technical part, I met another senior test engineer and we just chatted about our backgrounds. Finally, I met with some test engineers and they gave me a chance to ask all my questions. It was a great experience, and they got back to me pretty quickly, like a day and a half.
