First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Weil Gotshal.
Assistant Manager
So I interviewed for an assistant manager role, and it took about 3 weeks. First, there was a recruiter screen, then a 2-hour in-person interview with 4 team members. It was all nice, but then they ghosted me, which was a first for me and pretty disappointing, especially since they mentioned not interviewing many people. I didn't even get a rejection. Some communication would've been nice.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What interests you about Weil?
- What about this specific role appeals to you?
Associate
After the initial screener, there was a callback, and the whole process was conducted online. It took a few business days to get to the next step. There were no surprises. It was a 30-minute interview with 4 attorneys, and it felt more like an interrogation than a conversation.
- What motivated your decision to go to law school?
- What is your interest in this particular practice group?
Vacation Scheme
Following some written tests at the assessment centre, I had an online interview with a partner and an associate. The interview focused on why I was interested in commercial law and specifically this firm. We also had a more in-depth discussion about my past experiences and transferable skills.
- Why are you interested in commercial law?
- What makes you want to join this firm?
- Can you discuss your previous experiences?
Graphic Designer
I was contacted by the recruiter and had a good interview with the Senior Manager, who is the Creative Director. This was followed by an interview with the Project Manager. The interview with the Senior Manager went very well. However, the second interview with the Project Manager was not as expected. She was very odd from the beginning. Her questions were very vague, and I wasn't sure if they were even questions. I understand I failed to describe my work in an eloquent manner, but we have portfolios and work that literally show how well we can perform. Being an English as a second language speaker, it's kind of difficult to be on par with native English speakers in terms of communication. Despite my great work experience and portfolio, I was not selected.
- How do you fit into our very dry work?
