First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Weil Gotshal.
Lawyer
You'll have a few chats with different partners. Each partner meeting is kind of a vibe check based on your skills, what you practice, and if you vibe. If they dig you, you get an offer. If they don't, you'll probably just get ghosted.
- What makes you want to join Weil?
Associate Attorney
I interviewed with 4 partners at a typical NY law firm. The firm has very long hours and little chance of becoming a partner or counsel, though they do promise you might make it. During the interview, one partner mentioned a rainmaker from my alma mater and asked if I wanted to be a partner or counsel. They rejected me the next day. I don't regret it because not getting an offer is better than working hard for years and then getting let go.
- Did you want to be a partner or counsel here?
Trainee Lawyer
After submitting an online application form, candidates went through a Watson Glaser test, followed by a video interview. Then there was an online Assessment Centre which included a written exercise and an interview with an associate and a graduate recruiter. The process concluded with a partner interview.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career in law?
- Why are you interested in training with Weil?
- Can you discuss a recent development or trend in the legal market and its implications?
