First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wawanesa Insurance.
Customer Service Representative
It was a virtual interview with normal behavioral and situational questions, plus a role play with three scenarios. Some tech questions were asked to confirm I met the requirements. The interviewer seemed annoyed with me from the start, so I'm not sure I had a chance. When I asked a clarifying question to better answer, she responded with "...sure." Also, asking about gaps in employment is unprofessional and none of anyone's business.
- What is your motivation for entering the insurance industry?
- What prompted your job changes?
- Could you describe your ideal work setting?
Claims Adjuster
There were 2 interviews. The first one was a Teams call with the recruiter, and both parties had cameras off. It was a bit strange to do this instead of a phone call, but maybe it's for transcription? The call was very brief and rushed. The second interview was with two members of the hiring team. This also felt extremely rushed, and it seemed like the interviewers were only there because they had to be. They weren't very conversational or engaging, just clearly reading from a list of questions. It's unfortunate because it seems like this company ghosts applicants.
- What is your motivation for becoming a claims adjuster?
- Describe a situation where you experienced a period of change within a team.
Underwriting Specialist
I submitted my application online through their careers site in June 2022. The HR department contacted me in early August 2022 to schedule a 30-minute phone screen. Following that, HR arranged a panel interview with the hiring manager and another HR representative. They also required a 30-minute presentation focused on a training module designed to familiarize personal lines underwriters with commercial lines coverage. I delivered a technical presentation covering legal liability concepts and detailing the components of a Commercial General Liability policy. The entire interview process, including the presentation, lasted over 90 minutes. A week later, HR informed me that my experience was too specialized for Wawanesa's commercial lines, which was a bit of a letdown given Wawanesa's limited scope in commercial lines, and I felt they had invested a significant amount of time considering my specialized background was apparent from the start.
- Can you discuss your previous experience in commercial underwriting?
Claims Representative
The hiring process lasted approximately two weeks from application to offer. After submitting my online application, I immediately received an assessment to complete. Two days later, I was invited to a phone interview, which I scheduled for the earliest available slot. This call covered job expectations and explored my previous work experience. I was informed that I would receive feedback within a week. Three days after that, I got confirmation that I had advanced to the next stage: a panel interview. This interview was a positive experience, with the participating managers seeming genuinely engaged and enthusiastic about their roles at Wawanesa. The questions were situational, such as asking for an example of a time I had to deliver difficult news to a customer, and I was given sufficient time to respond. Although I was told a decision would be communicated within two weeks, I actually received an offer just two days later.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment at Wawanesa?
- Can you share an instance where you had to convey unfavorable news to a customer?
