Biostatistics Intern
For my Masters application, I had to complete an automated online interview. It was pretty tough for me because the beeps and speaking parts were awkwardly timed, and the recording would just cut off before I was finished speaking.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- What motivated you to apply to this program?
- Describe a time you faced a challenge and how you overcame it.
Research Technician
This was an internal move for me. I kind of knew that this lab needed help so I applied, and within about two weeks or so I ended up getting a job interview. During the interview I was introduced to some of the projects that they were working on. The PI wanted to know more about me and my experience and why I wanted to work in research and given a tour. After the tour I spoke to the lab manager and staff.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career in research?
- Can you elaborate on your background and experience?
- What are your reasons for wanting to join our lab?
Marketing
started with some basic behavioral questions like tell me about yourself, challenges you've faced, your strengths and weaknesses, and communities you're involved in. They also asked about my experience with different applications and requested samples of my work. Then, I interviewed with multiple people from the team I would be working with, and they asked me different questions about various aspects of my application and background.
- Tell me about yourself.
- Can you tell me about a challenge you have experienced?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Accountant
I had an initial screening call with a program manager. It was weird because she didn't seem to have any accounting background and was just writing down my answers. It felt very impersonal, with me just staring at a blank Zoom screen. They asked if I had experience in this, and if I did, to explain. There was no real conversation or small talk. She couldn't even answer basic questions I had about the job. At one point, she asked if I could work 8:30 AM to 5 PM, and I said yes, that I already work a 40-hour week. She asked again because she didn't think my answer was a clear yes. I never heard back from them, not even a rejection, even after I followed up to thank her for her time. It was disappointing because I've heard it's a great place to work.
- Can you tell me about your experience with {some random accounting university accounting software}?
