First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Travelodge Hotels (UK).
Hotel Receptionist
First I had a phone interview that was super quick, like 5-6 minutes. Then they invited me for a physical interview. In the phone interview they mainly asked me about my understanding of customer service. After that, I had a face to face interview with the hotel's Area manager. She asked me some background questions and some scenario based questions.
- Could you explain a time you solved a problem on your own in a previous job?
- Tell me about yourself.
- How would you deal with a specific situation?
Bar Manager
So an interview is basically this structured chat where you get asked stuff to see if you're a good fit for a job, or maybe a course or something else. To get ready, you should check out the company and the gig you're going for, and have some answers ready for the usual questions. Also, make sure you've got some questions to ask them back. When you're in the interview, be on time, pay attention to what they're saying, answer straight to the point, and keep it brief.
- Could you tell me about the company's values, mission, and current industry trends?
Team Member
First, there's a standard face-to-face interview with management. Then, you have to come in super early, like 4:30 am, for a group tour of the hotel. They asked us some questions as a group, and I wasn't sure how relevant they were to getting hired, but it felt like they could still play a part. After that, they make an offer.
- What makes you want to work here, and what do you understand this job to entail?
Housekeeper
The interview was held in an empty hotel room. The manager was very friendly and made me feel comfortable, explaining the job clearly. The main focus was on my flexibility and willingness to work various days, as they value employees who can work as much as possible. I was asked basic questions about the role, my enjoyment of it, and my understanding of good customer service. It felt more like a casual conversation. They require your passport for a right-to-work check. The interview, scheduled for 30 minutes, lasted about 45 minutes. I received a job offer during the interview and was given time to consider it, as I was still in the process of other interviews. The manager was patient and understanding throughout.
- Why are you interested in working for Travelodge or in this specific role?
- In your opinion, what constitutes good customer service?
- Do you anticipate enjoying this job?
