Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Travelodge Hotels (UK).
Receptionist
I sat down in an open day environment, and it was like clockwork. Various tables with people going around for a 5-minute chat. The questions were very basic, and I was almost ushered away. Perhaps I over prepped, as many many candidates were there.
- Can you tell me about your experience and if you're accustomed to night shifts?
Receptionist
So I applied, and then they had me come in for an in-person interview with the hotel manager. We talked about how I would handle customer service type situations and if I was okay with working shifts. It felt pretty relaxed and they mostly wanted to see if I’d be a good fit for the team.
- Can you tell me what your understanding of this role is?
Receptionist
I applied for a Receptionist position and got a call from recruitment a few days later. They asked about my experience and, after passing that stage, I was invited to a selection day. When I got there, I reported to reception and waited in the bar area with 4 other candidates interviewing for bar and receptionist roles. We introduced ourselves and talked a bit about our experiences. Then, we all worked together on a group activity where we had to design our hotel with a limitless budget and present our ideas to the interviewers. Finally, I had a one-on-one interview with the hotel manager or deputy managers.
- What makes you want this job and why Travelodge?
- Can you give an example of good customer service?
- Can you describe a situation involving poor customer service?
