First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Boston Beer Company.
People Operations
The interview process was pretty thorough, I met with a bunch of people from the team and even leadership. In total, there were 8 interviews. Every interviewer said I could reach out if I had any questions, but after the last one, I got totally ghosted. I tried emailing, calling, and following up a bunch, but the recruiter and the others who said to contact them just ignored me. Super disappointing and rude.
- What motivated you to apply to this company?
Change Management Manager
I put in my application online through the company's website. A response email came about three days later with links to the HireVue video interview platform and another site for a Personality Assessment. Although they aren't hard, both are known for being biased, which makes me wonder why everyone at Corporate looks the same. Over time, if you only hire people who 'fit' instead of hiring for intelligence, ability, and cultural diversity, a company can't innovate because it gets stuck in its own echo chamber of sameness.
- What motivates you to want to work at this company?
- Can you share an example of a time when...?
Specialist
So weird that they do a personality test before even talking to anyone, which felt like a bad sign. You also don't get to see the results of this test, making me think it's used for discrimination. Then there's a Hirevue, which makes me wonder why a robot is used instead of talking to a person to see if someone fits the role. If the hiring process is this messed up, I can only imagine how bad the actual workplace is.
- Tell me about your strengths.
- What makes you want this job?
Market Channel Manager
The interview process was pretty long. It started with a one way virtual interview, where questions are selected for you and you record your responses. This is pretty easy, as you are given 3 chances to record your answer. After that there is an interview with a recruiter. Once I made it past this stage there was an interview with the Region manager. This I am told is followed by a day in the market with either a peer or your direct manager. I had a day in the field with my peer. This is designed to give you a feel for the role you will be doing. After that, I interviewed with my manager. This was followed by three interviews in the same day with people from the training and division leadership teams.
