First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tenable.
Senior Software Engineer
We started with a conversational behavioral interview with the hiring manager. Then, we had two technical interviews that involved pseudo coding, focusing on the reasoning behind your thought process rather than perfect code. Finally, there was a system design interview. The whole process felt quite conversational.
- Can you explain a question about caching?
- How would you approach traversing a file in batches?
- Let's discuss designing a notification system.
Senior Site Reliability Engineer
I had a recruiter interview on September 6th for a position based in Paris. While the interview experience was positive, I have not received any follow-up or feedback since then. I reached out to inquire about the status, but unfortunately, I haven’t received any responses. I believe it's important for companies to communicate with candidates out of respect, and I hope the company can improve in this area to ensure a more respectful and transparent process.

Staff Software Engineer
I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn, and we had a 30-minute chat about the position. Following that, they scheduled calls for me to speak with technical team members. First, I spoke with the director, then with two senior team members who asked me technical questions and about my past experience. After that, I had a call with another staff engineer to answer more technical questions. Overall, the interview experience was positive. The team seemed great, and the director appears to be a good manager. The company looks promising for future growth. I suspect the team is using advanced technology for their database to ensure scalability. However, I have another offer that might be a better fit for me. My overall experience was very good.
- Can you explain the distinction between global and local index keys in DynamoDB and how you would apply them?
- What is your experience with database tuning?
- Have you worked with Kotlin?
Senior Software Development Engineer in Test
It was a long interview process, spanning two months, with several different rounds. It started with an initial phone screen with talent acquisition, who was really helpful. Then, I had an interview with a senior engineer to discuss my CV and some technical questions. Next, I interviewed with two more senior engineers, focusing more on my technical skills and how I approach problems. Following that, another interview with a senior engineer centered on soft skills. A HackerRank take-home test followed, involving questions on extracting data from a REST API, creating a Selenium test for page elements, and a list iteration question. Finally, I had an interview with the team manager for a CV review and some technical questions about my abilities.
- Can you describe your method for testing a new product or feature?
- Tell me about your proficiency with Python.
- How would you go about extracting data from a REST API?
