Technical Support Engineer
I had a couple of phone screenings. Then, there was a 2-hour Skype interview with 3 people. I answered all their questions correctly. However, one of the interviewers seemed skeptical from the start, thinking I might not be the perfect fit. He mentioned my profile looked good, more towards application security than this specific role. He started asking confusing, basic questions, trying to make them complex. I answered from a web application perspective, but he was expecting a network-based answer. Despite my answers being correct, he muted himself for a few minutes and then decided to end the interview, believing my answers were wrong. This was unprofessional and rude, especially since a previous manager I interviewed with thought the role was a match. If he had doubts, he should have just passed me instead of wasting my time.
- Can you explain the basic handshaking protocol?
- What are routing protocols?
- Can you describe the OSI model?
Technical Support Engineer
Got approached by the recruiter, then had a quick 10 min chat about the interview process and how many rounds there would be. After that, there was a 30 min technical test. Finally, a technical interview covering Linux, Windows, and Networking. The manager also interviewed me. They said the tech interview should be easy if you prep for about 2 hours. I didn't prep much because it was in the middle of the workday and happened the day after the recruiter contacted me. Kind of a missed chance, but I feel like if I got another shot, I'd definitely nail it.
- Can you explain what the OSI model is?
- What exactly is the Windows Registry?
- Describe how you would configure a basic system on your PC to resist penetration.
Technical Support Engineer
I applied on their website and then a recruiter reached out. The recruiter talked to me about basic info and asked some questions about my resume. They finished the call with a really simple tech quiz. After that, they told me what I should study if I got further in the process. Then, I set up a phone interview with one of the managers. The manager phone interview was about an hour long and it was all technical.
- Can you tell me the Linux command to check the amount of used disk space?
