Behavioral Technical

The whole interview process is quite long and not very organized. It typically takes 6 to 12 weeks from the first screening call until an offer is made, and there are multiple interviews spread out over several days. It would be way better if StepStone could group more of the interviews together on the same day, instead of making candidates take multiple days off from their current jobs over a few weeks.

Behavioral Technical System Design Coding

I had a call with HR first which went great. It was a standard intro call to learn more about the role and talk about myself, covering my background, what motivates me, my past projects, and how I collaborate. They confirmed the next round during the call. When I asked what to expect, they mentioned no live coding but a technical discussion, likely system design. The next meeting was with two engineers. It started with intros, then a system design interview, and some questions on transformer architectures. So far, so good. But then, they threw a LeetCode problem at me and expected me to solve it live. Honestly, this approach seems flawed as it might filter out good candidates who haven't specifically prepped for these types of problems. It's also frustrating when the process doesn't align with what was communicated.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

I went through three interview rounds. First, I spoke with two associates from the real estate team about my background, motivations, and some technical stuff. Then, I had a technical case study that I worked on and presented by myself. The last round was a more strategic talk with a VP and a Partner about my investment thinking, my interest in StepStone, and if I'd fit with the team. The whole thing gave me a good sense of the job and the company.

Behavioral Presentation

So, it was a 3 part process. The first two rounds were over zoom, and the last one was in person. I talked to one person in the first round, then three people in the second, and then three people again in the office for the final round. It was pretty much all behavioral questions. In the final round, two of the people I met in round 2 were there again, plus one new person. When I met with those two again in the final round, it was more about the questions I had about the role and what I wanted to know.
