First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sports Direct.
Sales Assistant
It was pretty simple, they got back to me on email and let me choose an interview time. Then I went in store and was taken to the back room where they asked the questions. They didn't ask for passport or any ID.
- Tell me what you know about Sports Direct.
- What makes you want to work here?
- Can you tell me about your past work experience?
Sales Associate
The interview was very direct and short, with common questions about your past experience and why you are suited for the role you are applying for. Confidence is key, as well as examples of how and when you’ve demonstrated similar skills required to do the job you are applying for in the past. You want the interviewer to feel and believe you are more than capable of completing the tasks at hand independently.
- Can you share an instance where you had to handle a challenging customer?
Customer Assistant
I was told to wait by a door to the left, but there was no sign or guidance, so I waited for 20 minutes. I was thinking of leaving when the manager came out. It was unprofessional to have a 15-minute delay with no apology or explanation. Another candidate was waiting after me because they took so long. During the interview, they lacked eye contact and attention, making me feel dismissed.
- Would you prefer to work in checkout, textiles, or stock?
Sales Manager
It was a pretty casual interview, just moving from one person to another. The manager interviewing me was knowledgeable and friendly, and knew a lot about how the company started. Overall, it went well, and I got the job offer after that.
- Can you share some information about the company's history?
