First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sonos.
Account Manager
The interview process involved three rounds. First, a recruiter call, then an interview with the hiring manager, who is the sales manager, and finally, a meeting with the director of sales. The recruiter was quite helpful and friendly. During the hiring manager interview, I was asked typical questions about my past experience and how I handled work situations. The final interviewer seemed a bit distant and was put off when I inquired about his volunteer work. I made sure to send thank you notes to everyone I spoke with, but I didn't hear back initially. After I followed up with the sales manager and director for feedback, the recruiter responded with a generic, poorly formatted, and cold message. Looking back, it seems this sales department could use a shake-up; it feels a little outdated.

Software Engineer
The interview process involved an initial screening with HR for general questions, followed by a meeting with the hiring manager, also for general questions. Then there were three rounds with engineers: one focused on a coding challenge, another on a design challenge, and a final one covering general technical topics. The interview was challenging, with the Python coding question starting simple but having many requirements added, and similarly for the design challenge. The interviewers were helpful and aimed to observe interaction and learning.

The hiring process involved 6 interviews: first an HR screen, then a hiring manager interview, followed by four 45-minute interviews. It spanned about 6 weeks and took place over four separate days. Oddly, the four 45-minute interviews were scheduled together, raising concerns about continuing if I performed poorly. These also occurred over two days within one week, which was challenging to manage with my full-time job. After this intensive week, a decision wasn't made for 13 days, and I needed another offer to prompt a rejection notification. The whole experience felt drawn out and inefficient. It's possible I was out of consideration after the first 45-minute interview, over two weeks before being informed, despite three more interviews remaining. In total, I dedicated over 4 hours, took time off work, and my husband had to take a day off to care for our baby during one of my interview days. I had to repeatedly follow up with HR for an update. By the time of the call (Sonos should use email for rejections), I had already figured out the outcome, but was relieved not to be ghosted. This process was exhausting.
- Can you share an instance where you had a disagreement with your manager?
FP&A Manager
Started with a recruiter chat, then a zoom with the Hiring Manager. After that, I had three 45-min zoom calls with people I'd be working with, followed by a final quick 25-min wrap-up call with the hiring manager. It was all about behavior and process improvement stuff, with time for my own questions at the end. I felt like I just didn't click with some of the interviewers, like they wanted a specific vibe I didn't have. The hiring manager called to let me know they went with someone else, which was awkward - I kinda figured when they asked to call me that it wasn't for an offer.
- How do you manage supporting business partners who have different personalities?
- Describe your process for getting ready for an executive presentation.
