First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Severn Trent.
Customer Service Representative
It was good, I checked Glassdoor the morning of my interview, and I saw someone say, "2 scenarios were given to us (e.g., a customer with a learning difficulty who is struggling to understand their bills and an angry customer who's seen news about water pollution and a billing problem), and we were asked to discuss and brainstorm how we would react. Then 1 project activity where we had to suggest a new scheme to help vulnerable customers based on Severn Trent's existing schemes (note: research the different schemes they offer customers beforehand)". While I didn't get the project part, the scheme is useful for answering. I haven't received any outcome email yet, but this is just what i was asked
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded expectations?
- Describe a time you demonstrated resilience.
- How do you handle changes, like modifications to refund policies?
Graduate Programme
The process was pretty straightforward and the people were really welcoming. The assessment centre felt quite informal. There were some mix-ups with the initial email scheduling, and although they said we'd get a call within 72 hours after the assessment centre, it actually took them 6 days, and I had to chase them via email – I probably wouldn't have gotten one otherwise. The feedback call was super brief, like 20 seconds, and didn't give any clear breakdown of criteria.
- Can you share an instance where you took ownership of something significant?
- Describe a situation where you were held accountable for an outcome.
- Tell me about a challenge you encountered.
Planner
To effectively "describe yourself" in an interview, use a structured approach that links your background to the job, typically following a past-present-future formula. Keep the response to about one minute, focusing on relevant skills, achievements, and professional, positive traits tailored to the job description.
- Using the Star Approach, tell me about yourself.
- Tell me about yourself.
- Resource info.
Customer Service Advisor
The interview was a four-part process, scheduled from 2 PM to 5 PM, but it actually wrapped up by 4 PM. It kicked off with introductions for both staff and candidates, including an icebreaker question about dream travel destinations. Following that, there was a group activity where we analyzed a realistic job scenario, discussing group responses and potential challenges. The next step was a private one-on-one interview where four questions were posed, with the STAR method recommended for answers. The process concluded with a Q&A session with current Customer Service Advisors, where candidates could ask about the role.
- Can you describe a time you faced opposition but persevered, and what was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time you provided exceptional customer service and exceeded expectations for a customer.
