First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Severn Trent.
Project Manager
The interview process was relaxed, straightforward, simple, and quite insightful. The interviews help us understand how the organisation views their work, their employees, the exact work details, and the skillset expected out of us. The interview process is a breeze.
- Describe a challenge encountered on a specific project and detail how you successfully resolved it.
Project Manager
Interview at Severn Trent head office at Raynesway. It felt really intense and formal right from the start. I sat down with two senior members of staff and they were fine, very formal but they were okay to talk to. The problem was the questions they were asking. The application mentioned NEC 3 contracts but said it wasn't essential as training would be provided. I'd say a large chunk of the interview was focused on this and it left me looking a bit silly rather than getting to know me as a person/worker, it became about my knowledge on this which I believe I could learn from a course or others within a week. Once I'd stumbled at this hurdle I couldn't get myself back together and already knew it was probably the worst interview I'd ever sat. Good experience but personally really bad experience.
- Tell me about NEC 3 contracts.
- What are your methods for managing poor attitudes in the workplace?
Project Manager
I was invited to an assessment centre, along with 3 other people, it was a standard assessment centre. We did group work focused on an issue of a small city and which investment project to choose and why. Then there was a personal assessment of a project, with an opportunity to give your own ideas and showcase your knowledge of the water sector. We also had to give a presentation on our three strengths that we were asked to prepare before the assessment centre, followed by questions. There were also competency-based questions.
- What is your motivation for working in this industry?
- Can you present your three key strengths?
- What are your personal insights and knowledge concerning the water sector?
