I interviewed with Save-A-Lot for an interior design position. I went through 4 rounds of interviews: a call with the recruiter, a zoom meeting with a senior designer, an in-person meeting with the design manager, and an in-person meeting with someone from upper management. I put a lot of time and effort into these interviews, took PTO, and drove 30 minutes each time. I was told I'd get a call with feedback even if I didn't get an offer, but I was ghosted after following up multiple times with the recruiter. About a year later, I saw the job posted again, applied, and was told I was their second choice last time. I went through two more interviews and then got a call from the recruiter saying I had the job and they'd send the offer the next day. She told me to quit my current job to start ASAP. I put in my notice the next day. Two days later, I contacted the recruiter since no offer was sent, and got an out-of-office message. I contacted the manager and received a call stating they lost the budget for the role and wouldn't send an offer. Now I don't have a job or a job offer. This incident has left me unemployed and searching for a new job for 5 months.

A third-party recruiter reached out via InMail about a real estate analyst role in St. Louis. I had an initial 30-minute phone chat with the recruiter, then went to their corporate office for interviews with multiple hiring managers. First, I met with an HR rep for 30 minutes. Then, I discussed my post-college experience with the Portfolio Manager for about 30 minutes. After that, I spoke with the Director of Real Estate for another 30 minutes, though I found him a bit hard to read. Since they had several analyst openings, I also chatted with the Director of Construction for about 45 minutes while waiting for the VP of Real Estate. The VP came down for a quick 5-10 minute chat, keeping it brief and mainly asking about my Excel skills.

During the call, the recruiter asked about my background. After only a few minutes, she offered me a Store Manager position instead, suggesting I might be better suited than candidates with multi-unit experience and that I could potentially move up from there, though she couldn't guarantee it. I questioned why I'd accept a lower-level role than the one I applied for, suspecting the company might be struggling.
