Marketing
So, this job is pretty much direct marketing, face-to-face stuff. Started off with me being late for my first round, like 30 minutes past my scheduled time. Then, the second round was wild – me, my mentor Kevin, and two other entry-level ladies, we were out in Philly trying to sign people up for free Android phones if they qualified, like for people on welfare. We got $8 for each sign-up, and the goal was 10-12 a day. I actually saw about 5 people sign up in 3 hours, so it seemed doable. After that, I had a phone interview, which was the third round, and then they gave me an offer. The whole system is set up in 4 levels, with the top level supposedly making six figures based on how their team does. It wasn't exactly door-to-door, but it felt kinda like it. It was pretty cool helping people out while getting paid though. I'm waiting on other offers before I decide, but I'd pass on this one if a non-performance based internship offer comes through.

Events and Marketing Coordinator
After applying, I got a call the same day to schedule an interview for the next day. When I got there, about 6 other people were waiting, which seemed like a bad sign. I waited 40 minutes past my interview time, and no one updated me on the delay, which was another red flag. During the interview, I was asked some basic questions. What was strange was the mention of a potential shift to an executive management role in charge of a 25-30 person sales and marketing team for a client after one year, which I wasn't aware was part of the job. I questioned how I'd be prepared for that after just a year and who those people would be. My interviewer said they'd call back between 5-7 PM with a decision and I should 'stay by my phone.' If it was good news, I'd have to shadow someone the next day from 9:45 AM to 1 PM, without them asking if I was available. I got the call to move forward, and was told to 'wear comfortable shoes.' This was a huge red flag, and when I asked if I'd be outside, they said 'probably.' I suspected I'd be outside most of the day, and with my parents' advice and online reviews, I decided not to go to the shadow session.

Marketing Coordinator
Applied online and was contacted quickly. First interview was with employees who seemed to cover multiple roles, and there were many other interviewees. The interview went well, and I was told the role involved event planning, content creation, digital marketing, and project planning, with potential to market for a large wireless company in Philadelphia. However, I later learned much of this was untrue. For the second interview, they had moved offices and didn't mention it. I was given a clipboard and then waited an hour. The marketing coordinator took me to a street corner with two new interns who had a table and suitcase. We stood in the rain for 3 hours handing out 'Obamaphones.' The interviewer frequently interrupted, lost his train of thought, and made us try to write answers to questions while standing on the corner. We were supposed to go to lunch to discuss 'corporate structure,' which is a pyramid scheme. We went to a sandwich place where we all paid for our own food. The interviewer continued asking questions and took my food when it arrived before his. He claimed this was just 'philanthropy' and there was more to the job, but promotion required hiring people and signing up 40 people for Obamaphones. It felt like a joke and a waste of time, not a serious career opportunity.

Marketing Associate
The hiring process is wild. Everyone you talk to is super upbeat and nice, but don't let that fool you. There are 2 interviews. The first is a quick 20-minute chat, pretty standard. The second one, they want you to actually see their 'events' in action. They don't mention dressing for the weather or needing cash for transit and lunch. You shadow someone who's been there maybe 9-10 months max. While walking or on the train, they're grilling you with interview questions (which is actually illegal). On top of that, they take you to a rough part of Philly and then to sketchy neighborhoods to set up their event. Even while they're pitching to customers, they're still asking you questions. Then they take you to lunch, which you have to pay for, and then they just leave you to figure out how to get home.
