First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Reed Smith.
Executive Assistant
After getting an offer and being ready to start, it was rescinded due to a small, unintentional mistake I made regarding a timing update on my employment status. I never meant to mislead; it was just a delay in communicating, which could have been easily fixed with a chat. Instead, it was blown out of proportion and seen as a major issue, leading to the offer being pulled. The biggest thing that struck me was the lack of common sense. They didn't try to understand the situation, show any flexibility, or work through something that was totally fixable. The reaction seemed way over the top for what happened. From this, it seems like the workplace is super strict and rigid, with very little room for mistakes or judgment calls, even for minor, accidental slip-ups. Folks should know that even tiny timing errors in talking can get you disqualified fast, no matter how qualified you are. Even though the company might have a good name, my hiring experience makes me think they care more about sticking to the rules than being fair or understanding human errors. It was a bummer, especially after putting in time and effort and getting ready to contribute.

Trainee Lawyer
I first filled out an application form that had three questions about commercial law, Reed Smith, and current legal industry issues. After they passed my initial application, I got a link to do a video interview. For the video interview, I had to answer timed questions, and I was given some time beforehand to prepare my answers. After I finished the video interview, I got an email saying they weren't moving forward with my application this time.

Coordinator
Applying online was simple and the whole process was quite quick and straightforward. There were two parts to it: an initial online stage and then a follow-up in-person meeting. The HR folks were nice and supportive, really upfront with everything and gave good feedback.
- Could you tell me about your relevant experience for this position?
Paralegal
The first stage was pretty straightforward, they just wanted to know about my past work experience and when I could start if I got the job. They also asked if I was willing to move for the position and what my salary expectations were. On top of that, they inquired about my visa status and wanted me to explain my motivation for applying and confirm my understanding of the role based on the description.
- Can you elaborate on your past experience and confirm your understanding of the job description?
- What is your availability for this position and are you open to relocation?
- What are your salary expectations and what is your visa type?
