Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Reed Smith.
Trainee Solicitor
Did an online pre-recorded interview. There was no human interaction, which made it challenging to maintain good eye contact and present myself effectively. The questions weren't overly difficult, but the experience felt impersonal and it was hard to gauge how I was doing.
- Can you tell us something about yourself?
Trainee Solicitor
We started with a group task where we had to review some documents and then discuss them with others, ending with a group presentation. After that, there was a case study where we reviewed documents for an hour. A partner and an associate then asked questions related to the case study, and we also had to do a markup exercise based on those documents. Finally, there were competency questions.
- Regarding the case study, what is your analysis of the structured finance scenario?
- Could you explain your motivation for applying to Reed Smith?
- How do you picture a day in the life of a trainee solicitor?
Trainee Solicitor
They will ask about yourself, and also give you a scenario to understand how you would tackle problems; some questions are driven by your CV; you may be asked to describe your interest.
- Can you tell me something about yourself?
- What about your CV did you want to elaborate on?
- Here is a scenario, how would you tackle the problems it presents?
