The interview process was really nice. Everyone I met was super kind. First, I had an interview at their Bellaire office, and then I did an online interview.

Behavioral

It was a 2 stage interview process. The first round was with a junior engineer, and the second with a principal engineer. They asked general questions about culture fit, your background, and behavioral stuff. They seem to be okay with hiring freshmen.

Behavioral Technical Other

Applied online, then did three phone interviews. After that, I had a final round of back-to-back panel interviews in person on the same day. I learned a few things that made me decide not to accept an offer, so I withdrew. First, they told me the whole company works 7:30am-5:30pm with half days on Fridays, but some people get special exceptions. This seems really difficult for parents who commute, especially in a big city like Houston, and means really long hours Monday-Thursday. This lack of flexibility really shows how the company views employee needs. They initially said I could work a different schedule, but then in my last interview, they said I had to work their standard hours. Second, when I asked my potential supervisor (a senior person) how he 'measures success,' he said 'if people like you.' While good relationships are important, there should be other ways to measure competence. In one of the final panel interviews, a VP asked me questions like 'What is your greatest failure?', 'What are your life's biggest mistakes?', and 'What are your weaknesses?'. It was strange. This company has had a lot of drama and conflict in its training team in the past, and it seems like they're really scared of hiring someone with a similar personality or work style to a former boss they fired. They have so much baggage from that situation. It felt like dating someone who's still hung up on their ex. I saw too many red flags and withdrew.

We flew you out to our HQ in Texas for a happy hour meet and greet in the evening. The next day was a round-robin style interview. There were 4 individual interviews that focused on the areas you were interested in. Then, there was a cycling interview with other candidates, interviewing different departments. Finally, there was a reverse interview where you, the interviewee, got to ask a panel of employees questions about the company.
