First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pratt & Whitney Canada.
Rotational Engineer
I applied online and then had an online assessment. It was very basic, asking about myself. Then, for the in-person interview, we started with a resume overview where I talked about my past experiences. After that, there were two behavioral questions, like how I'd handle a dispute with my team. Finally, I was shown a diagram of a turbofan engine and asked to explain its operation, identify parts, and discuss the forces and stresses involved.
- Given a diagram of a turbofan engine, please identify the type of engine and explain its working principles.
Mechanical Design Engineer
They showed me a diagram of a turbofan and asked me to label the parts. Then they asked more detailed questions about specific parts. After that, they asked some technical questions about things like bearings. Finally, they asked me a couple of behavioral questions about teamwork and how I'd handle projects that are all a priority.
- Regarding the cross-section of the engine shown, could you explain why there's reverse flow in the combustion chamber?
Material Modeling Engineer
The interview was a 45-minute technical chat with the team lead. They wanted to see how much I knew technically, if I could solve problems, and if I'd fit in. The lead asked a lot of questions about my past work and we talked about some tough technical stuff for the job. I got to ask my own questions at the end about the team and how things are here.
- Could you introduce yourself and give me an overview of your resume?
- Can you tell me more about your past projects and your experience?
- What are your thoughts on the technical challenges associated with this role?
Senior Strategic Planning Manager
The interview process spanned 3 rounds, involving HR, the hiring manager (Sr. Director), and the department head (VP). While scheduling was efficient, planning between interviews felt slow. The HR interview wasn't ideal; the rep missed a meeting without notice and it took a month to reschedule. It was easy with basic questions. The subject matter interview with the hiring manager and VP was very relevant and heavily focused on the technical and strategic aspects.
- How would you approach strategizing market entry for a new product or program? What key factors would determine the success or failure of your business case?
