First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Population Services International.
Accountant
The interview process was professional and cordial. I went through 3 interviews. I think the questions were focused on my past experiences and how I could apply them to the current job. The first interview was with HR, and the second was with two managers.
- Tell me about challenges you've faced previously and how you dealt with them.
Fundraising Coordinator
A recruiter reached out to set up an HR screening. The interviewer sent a Teams link but joined without their camera on, which was confusing. During the interview, the interviewer was condescending and kept emphasizing that the role was purely administrative.
- Can you walk me through your journey to this point?
- Could you describe your recent work experiences?
- Do you have experience with database management?
Program Manager
I spoke with HR on the phone. They wanted to know why I was interested in the job and how I found out about the company. We talked about my experience, the pay, and what would happen next. Then, I had to do a writing test and a budget test. After that, I had an interview with a program manager over Skype, followed by an in-person interview with another program manager. They asked about my availability for a final interview. When I left the last interview, HR told me I did really well and they'd be in touch soon. I never heard back, and when I followed up, I got no response. I thought that was really unprofessional.
- Can you explain what social marketing is?
- Describe a situation where you made an error at work.
Intern
So I applied, and a few days later got contacted to schedule a phone interview. It was pretty short, around 20 minutes. Mostly they asked about my background and skills, and how they fit the role. The interviewer was really nice, which made it easy to chat. After that, I had to do a translation test. She said she'd let me know about an in-person interview if they decided to move forward. The next week, I was setting up the in-person interview. Two people talked to me for about 30 minutes, and then another person interviewed me for another 30 minutes. It's a really nice and welcoming office. Then, I got emailed another translation test.
- Which of your strengths do you think will be most beneficial for completing your tasks?
- When it comes to your working style, do you tend to work more independently or collaboratively?
- What are your thoughts on reporting to or working with multiple supervisors?
