I usually give companies the benefit of the doubt, but this company's hiring process was disappointing. I wanted to share because I think they need to pay more attention to how recruiters represent them. This was one of my top-choice companies, and I was excited for the interview. I showed up on time, but the recruiter didn't. I waited 15 minutes and had to send a reminder. She joined after that and apologized, which I appreciated, but having to follow up felt like my time wasn't respected. After the interview, I didn't hear back. I followed up again and got an email congratulating me. Not long after, I got another message asking me to disregard the previous one because the team was still 'thinking.' This careless back-and-forth made me feel like my application wasn't taken seriously. I put real time and energy into preparing for this opportunity. I came in excited, prepared, and respectful of the process. The way things were handled made me feel undervalued and dismissed. It left a bad impression of the company. I hope leadership reflects on how important it is to have a professional, organized, and respectful hiring process because it affects how people see your brand.

The interview process was pretty standard. It began with an initial phone screen. Then, there were 3 separate hour-long Teams calls with managers and directors. Scheduling was a bit tricky on Point B's end, with a few calls needing to be rescheduled, but they were upfront about it, which helped given the extended timeline. The questions were mostly behavioral and experience-based. They also included a take-home assignment involving a business case, which I had to present in a slide format during one of the interviews. Compared to other consulting interviews I've done, this one was easier. Everyone I met was friendly and professional. Point B seemed keen on hiring me and said they'd reach out when a suitable project came up, as they were 'hiring to demand'. This felt a little odd, but they were transparent, so I was willing to wait a few weeks since I wasn't in a rush. However, after looking into it on other sites, I started noticing red flags. I discovered Point B is more of a staff augmentation agency than a true management consulting firm, which was surprising because the recruiter, interviewers, and company website all gave the impression it was a management consulting company. After 3 weeks, they contacted me about a project that fit my skills. They then adapted my resume and sent it to the client, who seemed interested. I was informed that I'd need to interview directly with the client before being placed on the project. This confirmed my suspicion that Point B is essentially a staff augmentation agency posing as a management consulting firm. It was at this point that Point B finally extended an initial offer, which was surprisingly low, even though I had clearly stated my salary expectations earlier. Their final offer was quite poor, and the work wasn't what I was led to believe. Honestly, it felt like a complete waste of my time.
- What is your motivation for wanting to work at Point B?
Principal
So, first off, there was a bit of a mix-up with the recruiter invites, got two different messages, but they said it was a system error. After that, the phone screen was super quick. Then came three interview rounds, one of which was a case study. The first interview was with a junior person, which was cool. The second was with a Sr. Principal on a specific practice. The third one was with the hiring manager. A few days later, a recruiter I hadn't spoken to before called with a bad connection, sounded like they were outside. When I asked why I didn't get the job, they said it was due to a lack of experience I never claimed to have, and it wasn't in the job description. It would've been nice if they'd made that clear upfront so I wouldn't have wasted hours. Plus, the recruiter didn't seem ready for the feedback conversation, even though they were the one calling me. If you're gonna have people do a two-hour case study, be ready to give some context for the decision. Honestly, it was a letdown, especially since I'd heard good things about the company.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself and your background?
- Can you walk me through some of your past cases or engagements?

The whole interview experience was really good. All the people I talked to were really helpful and made me feel welcome. I could tell they genuinely wanted me to do well. It wasn't as stressful as I expected, mainly because the interviewers were good at easing the pressure by being friendly and understanding. They also kept in touch, checking if I had any questions or needed help. The first interview was a 30-minute chat about myself and why I was interested in PointB. The second and third interviews were longer, each lasting an hour and a half, where I had to answer behavioral questions, present a prepared deliverable, and then tackle a case study question.
- Can you share a strength or weakness you possess?
