So it was about 4 rounds, I had an initial call with the recruiter, then a call with the hiring manager, and after that there were 4 interviews with other team members. They did a 2-hour session, with each interview being 30 minutes long. So in total, that was 6 interviews over the course of a month.

Behavioral Technical

I interviewed with a recruiter, the hiring manager, and someone who's a peer of the hiring manager/AM Lead. While the structure was appreciated, some parts felt off. The interview with the peer felt unenthusiastic and disengaged, which impacted the vibe and my perception of the company culture, unlike the recruiter and hiring manager. Some questions from the peer seemed irrelevant to how things are actually done here. Like, I was asked about discounting a client, but then they admitted the company doesn't do discounts. A better question would've been about handling discount negotiations, to see how I think under pressure. I answered the question as asked. When I asked her what she liked about her job or why she joined, she said it was 'just another job' and nothing special about Plaid. That kind of response isn't inspiring and doesn't build confidence in the company's culture, especially when I'm excited about Plaid's unique stuff and inclusivity. This could be improved to make the candidate experience better and show off the company's values more positively.

Technical Coding Other

This was a laughable experience. They first give you a take-home assignment before you even talk to a recruiter, which I found to be a waste of time. After submitting it, I received a generic email. I then had a phone interview with the recruiter who was late and tried to rush me. The next interview was with someone who cancelled two hours before, which felt disrespectful of my time, and apparently is a habit of theirs. If I had proceeded, it would have been a 3-hour technical interview, which seems excessive. The interview went well, so I was surprised by the rejection, especially since it came the day before Christmas. It seems the hiring manager doesn't think someone with a degree and experience is suitable for the role.

Technical Coding

The technical interview process is notably behind industry standards - instead of using standard coding platforms like CoderPad or HackerRank, they gave prompts/ starter code in Zoom, asked candidates write code in their own environment and send it via email, creating an inefficient back-and-forth. The process itself is draining: 7 rounds of interviews, including repetitive technical assessments where alternative approaches aren't well-received. Recruiter consistently showed up 30+ minutes late to scheduled meetings. Most concerning: After completing the entire process, I was informed that even passing all rounds doesn't guarantee placement due to headcount/reorganization issues. Subsequently, received a rejection with zero feedback and no further communication. The experience suggests serious organizational issues. I wouldn't recommend this process even for interview practice, given the excessive time investment required and the quality of technical discussions. Other companies offer much more respectful, efficient, and professional interview experiences. Save yourself time and energy by looking elsewhere.

A client is reaching out with a question about transactions data. Hi Plaid, I’m recently integrated with Plaid and I’m starting to see duplicate transactions pop up in my database.
